State Governor and Attorney General Push Back

by Kirk Kirkland

Despite the chaos that resulted when the U.S. government started a war against Iran, there is the good news that shows how our state legislature, our Governor and the state’s Attorney General have pushed back against the ICE raids in our state.

State Governor bans masked policing

Last month we reported on the lack of attorneys in the Department of Justice and the 29% of White House staff who have departed. The President still does not have enough attorneys to follow up on the over 600 appeals against him. These court appeals stopped ICE troops in Chicago, Portland, and other cities.

With nightly news of explosions and cities burning, the administration steals all the minutes on TV news. Left unreported is the Supreme Court’s  6-3 ruling that Trump can’t use emergency powers to impose tariffs. This decision invalidated billions of dollars in collected duties and restored to congress its authority to levy tariffs.

Our state legislature has worked with other states and just passed SB 5855 for the Governor to sign. It ensures law enforcement transparency. The bill prohibits officers from wearing face-concealing masks during public interactions. This law prevents militarized policing in our communities.

To prevent Trump from winning the media war, you must become discerning about the media you read and recognize how bad news steals your energy and your hope.

When Congress and the Supreme Court ruled against the Federal Administration, within days Trump set off a targeted attack in Iran.  He killed Hoda Khamenei, Zahra Haddad-Adel, her son, and his daughter. After killing the nations newly elected leader there’s no way this new leader is going to sit down at a peace conference any time soon.

At this point you must not give up hope. You have to acknowledge this news, then look at how non profit organizations and governors are working together to protect their citizens by restoring the Rule of Law..

Recent events in Minnesota demonstrated the extreme risks of masked federal enforcement. Federal agents in Minneapolis fatally shot Renée Good and Alex Pretti.  When their case was presented to Federal Court, the Department of Justice sent a single, untrained attorney to the hearing. She admitted she could not provide a legal justification for the masked agents’ actions. Several other trials end even worse, no attorney shows  up.
