County political landscape needs environmental advocates

Friends and Advocates

For several decades I have worked with Tahoma Audubon, Sierra Club and Futurewise as an environmental advocate before such bodies as the Washington State Legislature and the Pierce County Council.

Partnering with these political bodies, the Pierce County environmental community has been able to save wildlife habitat, use the Growth Management Act to limit suburban sprawl and preserved open space through Conservation Futures funding.

This year the agenda before the state legislature and the county is a turning point providing opportunities to move our environmental agenda forward.

The Pierce County Planning Department is proposing updating its Growth Management Plan is an opportunity to update Growth Management to add goals to limit global warming and make cities more livable.

The blog and the website is here to inform you about the environmental agenda of Pierce County Council and the state legislature  where you can get involved and make a difference.

We write articles about our partner organizations and their success in making political changes. In today’s divided political atmosphere, it is easy to turn a deaf ear to the political discussion.

My commitment to you hopeful is to provide discussions of practical solutions.  I don’t intend to criticise our elected officials.  This is about using information to bring people together.  If you are not already on our mailing list, fill out the form below.  If you have comments and suggestions about the stories or the issues on this site,  send me an e-mail.
