Your Vote is Needed!

Our Republic is being badly challenged.

During these dark days for our Republic, with the government shutdown now at 30 days and Congress struggling to find consensus, it becomes difficult to see what an individual can do to bring needed change and address the polarization that is gripping the country.

There are few choices, but one productive response is to vote for new representatives, e-mail your elected officials, and get out in the streets and protest. Basic rights are under siege: freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and perhaps the greatest right of all, your constitutional right to vote.

Ballots were mailed and should arrive at your home anytime. Review our list of endorsed candidates below, mark your choices, sign and date the envelope, and drop it in the mail soon!

Not all city council members declare their party, but this year there is big Republican money from Master Builders and other Republican donors who want to change the Democratic majority on the Pierce County Council. Bryan Yambe needs your vote or a donation if you don’t live within his council district.

In Lakewood, we have two women on the ballot who are running to provide a fresh perspective on the city council: Ellen Talbo and Jennifer Lamari. While significant, these races have been underfunded – they need our help. If you don’t live in District 5 or the City of Lakewood, you can influence the outcome in these races by donating funds to Yambe, Talbo, or Lamari.

In addition, races for Port of Tacoma, Gig Harbor and Puyallup City Councils, Steilacoom Mayor and Town Council, Parks Tacoma Board, and other smaller jurisdictions are critical. We want to support great candidates for the immediate future, but we also want to help them prepare for future races at the county, state, and federal levels.

We have met with most of our endorsed candidates in person, and have been found to be mindful stewards of our air, water, and ecosystems. If elected, they will have the opportunity to shape the conversation and influence local environmental policy. Later on, they may find themselves in a good position to run for a higher office and make an even greater impact.

2025 is the election when your vote can help change our future.  It all begins with finding local leaders with potential and supporting their campaigns. Go find your November 4 general election ballot, complete it, and put it in the mail or your favorite drop box.
