Invitation to Environmental Conference September 28, 2024

   The Fall Environmental Conference

AN OPPORTUNITY CONFERENCE

This is a chance to counter the disenfranchisement the people of Spanaway and Parkland have experienced with our own county government—when we spoke and were not heard, when were not afforded time to speak, and plans for our community were made without our involvement—

               The Fall Environmental Conference

                        From 9 am to noon.

                        September 28, 2024

                     At

                  Sprinker Recreation Center.

A sea-change can come to Pierce County in two months, with November’s election, when we have the chance to replace a County Executive who turns a deaf ear to us, and elect new leaders!

And so this is a hopeful time,

A time of opportunity for us

This is a time we haven’t seen since the 2002 passage of the Parkland-Spanaway-Midland Communities Plan and establishment of the PSM Land Use Advisory Commission under a former, more community-friendly government, when we were able to:

  • Improve Garfield Street
  • Get sidewalks, crossing islands and trees on Highway 7
  • Put the first protections on our waterways & open space
  • Save Sprinker Recreation Center from closing

Now is the opportunity for our voices to matter again. Some of us have begun with an honest conversation with Ryan Mello, candidate for Pierce County Executive.

At the Conference, Ryan, along with council member Jani Hitchen will listen to us, and share visions for changes possible when we elect a new, pro-community county government.

In return, they will ask us for our help to get them elected and make those visions a reality. Our aim is to re-establish our conversation with our government officials as of November—the people we’ll elect to represent and not ignore us.

A CHANCE TO SPEAK AND BE HEARD

Come to the conference prepared to talk about:

  • Your dreams for Parkland-Spanaway-Midland: for parks, waterways, commercial areas, arterials
  • What you think the county can do to make our community a more livable and thriving community
  • What you need from our Parkland-Spanaway Midland Land Use Advisory Commission
  • What you want from elected leaders
